BEHIND THE BRAND

Hi, I'm Ella-Marie and I'm the owner of Hart Clothing!

I've always dreamt of owning my own business, but have never known what that business was going to be.

Lockdown no.1 hit in March 2020, and I, like most of us, turned to online shopping with fast fashion brands. Controversial opinion here, I find online shopping with big brands so stressful. Sifting through hundreds of items, and never finding something I loved enough to buy, I soon grew frustrated. Let alone the damage it does to the environment, so I thought f*ck it, I'll make my own clothes! So I followed some simple sewing tutorials on YouTube with my Nana's 20 year old sewing machine and discovered my love for creating my own pieces and fashion through this creative outlet!

I started with anything I could lay my hands on, old bed sheets, pillow cases, old clothes my mum and sisters didn't want, my step dads old Levi jeans (to his dismay) and began up-cycling all these materials that were going to waste, and creating something new to love from them!

After some persuasion and a pep talk from my mum, and the endless support and patience from my friends whilst I pestered them to let me make tops for them to practice on, I launched the Hart & Co. Clothing Instagram account (now @_hartclothing) on the 28th of May 2020.

Since then it's become a place where secondhand fabrics come to live on!

The newest update to Hart & Co. Clothing was it becoming "Hart Clothing," and our little change to our business mission. The overall change was to make Hart Clothing a brand that values affordability inline with sustainability, (a lot of the time, the two don't go hand in hand) HOWEVER, with our switch to only stock garments or fabrics that are secondhand, we can afford to be affordable

Now, we only source good quality secondhand items that can be given a second lease of life with our branding or be turned into a new wearable garment! This means we can make sustainable fashion more achievable for not only us but more of you too! Sustainable fashion should never be out of reach, so making our stock secondhand means we can lower our price point.

Hart Clothing still either operates on a limited drop system, where there will be a limited number of garments released onto the website. Or, a made to order system (for our upcycled tops). Both these systems allow us to minimise wastage as much as possible.

It's been an incredible journey whilst I've balanced having a small business through the Covid-19 Pandemic, my 3rd year and masters at University, and since becoming a graduate and balancing it with a full time job, but I could not have enjoyed it more!

So stick around for a while, have a browse of our items, have a read of our blog, and I can't wait to see you in Hart Clothing soon!
